Bass

LARGEMOUTH BASS

The Largemouth Bass is one of the most popular caught species in San Diego. The largemouth can be distinguished from similar species by the mouth that extends at least to, and often beyond the rear edge of the eyes

With a lifespan of 10-15 years they feed on other small fish, insects and zooplankton. 

KELP BASS

The color of this species is brown to olive green with pale blotches on the back, becoming lighter below. 

SPOTTED BASS

The spotted bass, like all black basses except the largemouth, has scales on the base portion of the second dorsal fin, its first and second dorsal fin are clearly connected, and its upper jaw bone does not extend back to or beyond the rear edge of the eyes.
