HALIBUT
CALIFORNIA HALIBUT
This is the largest and most abundant flatfish growing to a weight of 60 lb.
It feeds near shore and is free swimming. It has a small head with large mouth full of teeth. The most interesting things are the eyes in adults, both eyes are on one side of the body so that the fish can lay flat on the seafloor with eyes facing up.
It works well with real or artifical bait, but no matter what technique you use, be sure to pay attention to your line and watch for bites. Halibut are powerful fish and they can easily break your line if you're not careful. When you feel a bite, reel in slowly and steadily until you've landed your fish!
